After-School Counselor

Position Summary
Afterschool Counselors create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for youth during afterschool hours. This position is responsible for planning and leading activities, supervising children, and supporting their social, academic, and emotional development.
Work Schedule
The mandatory training week will be held August 25–29, 2025.
The first day of Club for the school year will be September 2, 2025.

School Year: Monday–Friday
Shifts: 3–4.5 hours per day (varies by site)

Compensation
Starting at $16 per hour, with increases based on education and experience
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Delivery
Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities and lessons in areas such as homework help, STEM, arts, sports, and life skills
Provide effective homework assistance during Power Hour
Create an inclusive environment that promotes participation and engagement
Serve as a positive role model and mentor for all youth
Supervision and Safety
Maintain appropriate supervision and ratios at all times
Inspect program areas daily to ensure safety
Establish and enforce clear rules and expectations
Use positive behavior management techniques
Follow all emergency and safety procedures
Document and report incidents accurately and promptly
Professional Conduct
Attend and participate in staff meetings and required trainings
Communicate effectively and professionally with youth, families, colleagues, and school personnel
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Accept and implement constructive feedback
Uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity
Relationship Building
Build positive relationships with youth, staff, parents, and community partners
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
Represent the organization positively in the community and on social media
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with special events, family nights, and community activities
Maintain clean, organized program spaces and properly care for supplies
Adapt activities to meet emerging needs and interests of youth
Balance indoor and outdoor programming
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (some college coursework preferred)
Experience working with youth in education, childcare, recreation, or related fields
Ability to lead activities and manage groups of children
Flexible, reliable, and positive attitude
Ability to lift, bend, and engage in active play both indoors and outdoors
Must pass a national criminal background check and fingerprint screening
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete within 6 months of hire)
