Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) - Pediatric Dentistry
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) specializing in Pediatric Dentistry to join our dynamic dental team. This role is vital in providing exceptional dental care to our young patients, ensuring their comfort and safety while supporting the clinical team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of pediatric dental procedures, infection control protocols, and dental assisting techniques, with experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. Familiarity with EMR systems such as OpenDental is highly desirable. Duties
Assist the pediatric dentist during various procedures including restorations, extractions, and prosthodontics using four-handed dentistry techniques
Take and develop X-rays and medical imaging, ensuring proper patient positioning and safety protocols are followed
Manage medical documentation and maintain accurate medical records in EMR systems such as OpenDental while adhering to HIPAA regulations
Perform chairside assisting with vital signs measurement, medical history updates, and patient education on oral health care
Operate 3D scanners and other advanced dental technology to facilitate precise diagnostics and treatment planning
Ensure infection control through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization of instruments and equipment
Provide patient education tailored to pediatric patients about dental procedures, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment care
Support administrative tasks including dental reception duties when needed, maintaining a welcoming environment for patients and families
Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following OSHA standards for infection control and safety
Experience
Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting with pediatric patients is preferred
Proficiency in dental terminology, medical coding, and documentation within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable
Demonstrated knowledge of general dentistry procedures including endodontics, prosthodontics, and anatomy relevant to pediatric dentistry
Experience with X-ray techniques, medical imaging devices, and chairside assisting skills required for providing comprehensive pediatric dental care
Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards and infection control protocols essential for maintaining patient confidentiality and safety
Certification or training in EFDA procedures is advantageous but not mandatory; ongoing professional development is encouraged
