Senior Manager - Application Development
Job Description:JOB SUMMARY:This position is for a Software Engineering Senior Manager to lead multiple scrum teams in the Vertex Compliance and Returns value stream on a strategic customer facing SaaS product with critical deliverables. As a Software Engineering Senior Manager, you will apply knowledge of people leadership, software development methodologies, best practices, and proven processes to a greenfield project to deliver timely outcomes with high quality standards. This role will collaborate across the teams on software development needs including design, development, and testing software. In addition to the collaboration with teams, this role will collaborate with partners to ensure our requirements are met. The Software Engineering Senior Manager will build high performing teams and evaluate their teams’ results to determine if project objectives are being met as well as analyze and resolve software development needs.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Encourage a Growth Mindset and accountability across all team members.Manage multiple teams of highly skilled technical individuals in different time zones.Act in the role of Product Owners and collaborate with Product Managers to develop the roadmap and translate into team backlogs.Work closely with architecture, user experience, product management, and engineering to ensure delivered products are in alignment with corporate strategy and engineering best practices.Interpret how the business strategy links to individual roles and responsibilities.Establish effective processes and practices for knowledge sharing and communication.Guide overall team activity to support team/business objectives.Develop and direct plans for improving team performance.Clarify how change will help the organization meet business goals and articulate benefits of change.Make recommendations regarding appropriate staff levels and skills to achieve goals and objectives.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Determine appropriate resourcing of staff to achieve goals and objectives.Define annual Key Performance Indicators aligned with corporate goals.Manage and mentor employees on performance gaps, career development opportunities, and strategies.Manage and coach employees on all human resource related processes including onboarding, performance management, succession planning, employee relations, selection, terminations, compensation, and rewards.Recognize others’ contributions and share credit for success.Own attainment of high employee satisfaction and retention; lead development of program and initiatives within group to attain high employee satisfaction.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Have a wide range of skills, including some of the following:Application Languages: C#, JavaDatabases: RDBMS and OODBMS, Postgresql, AWS DynamoDB, SnowflakeUI Technologies: React, TypescriptCloud Technologies: AWS, Azure, or GCP – examples: EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, SESBuild and Deploy: branching strategies, GitHub Actions, JenkinsTesting: Unit, API, and UI technologies: JUnit, NUnit, Python, Postman/Newman, Cypress, SeleniumSource Control: GitHubExperience with Microservice based design and development.Experience with SaaS Based tenant development.Understanding of best practices regarding software development and software testing.Understanding of security best practices when architecting environments, applications, and CI/CD processes.Experience with container technologies like Kubernetes, Docker preferred.Enjoy working with a large variety of services and technologies.EDUCATION AND TRAINING:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceOr equivalent combination of education and/or experienceExperience in production SaaS environmentExperience in a DevOps cultureTen (10) plus years of experience in software development with five (5) plus years of leadership experienceOTHER QUALIFICATIONS:The Winning Way behaviors that all Vertex employees need to meet the expectations of each other, our customers, and our partners.
