DPS recruits and supports educators with passion who are aligned with our vision to advance all learners to their highest potential.Position Summary:The Speech and Language Pathologist's responsibility is to evaluate the various speech, language, or hearing difficulties that may be interfering with a student's ability to make educational progress and to participate in the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process to determine eligibility and plan an appropriate program. The pathologist works collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families to support student success and help students overcome communication barriers.Responsibilities Include:Provide individual and group therapy to address speech and language disordersConduct speech and language evaluations to identify students' needsDevelop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students requiring speech and language servicesCollaborate with teachers and school staff to create and implement strategies to support students in the classroomOffer consultation to teachers and staff on language development, speech disorders, and best practices for classroom supportProvide progress reports to parents/guardians and participate in PPT meetingsProvide support to students in overcoming communication barriers that hinder their academic performance and social interactionDevelop and implement interventions and strategies for students with communication challengesAssist in the development of social language programs to promote social skills and peer interactionMaintain accurate records of services provided and student progressStay current with developments in speech and language pathology and collaborate with community agencies as neededJob Requirements - Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Strong understanding of speech and language disorders, therapy techniques, and assessment toolsAbility to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teamsKnowledge of speech therapy and language development strategiesAbility to collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators to support student successEffective communication and advocacy skillsKnowledge of state and federal regulations related to speech and language servicesStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information Preferred Education and Experience:Experience working as a Speech/Language Pathologist in a school settingBilingual or multilingual preferredExperience with early intervention and working with students with various disabilities Education/Certification Requirements:Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited institutionMust hold or be eligible for Connecticut State Department of Education Speech/Language Pathologist certification (061) Salary:Salary and benefits are in accordance with the current agreement between the Danbury Board of Education and the NEA-Danbury.Application Instructions:Apply online at: www.danbury.k12.ct.us
