AEMT - Mon EMS (Full-time)

The primary focus of the AEMT is to provide basic and advanced limited emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and for those patients who require non-emergency or interfacility medical transport. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. AEMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight, and perform interventions with the equipment typically found on an ambulance. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent National Registry of AEMTs Emergency Medical Technician certification* West Virginia Office of EMS AEMT Certification Valid Driver’s License Emergency Vehicle Operations Course or ability to successfully complete within six (6) months of hire Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers (AHA Preferred) Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) within one month of hire, including: IS 100: Introduction to the IC System IS 200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response IS 700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS 800: National Response Framework, an Introduction ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) or PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) certification (obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date) PEPP (Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers), PALS (Pediatric Life Support), or EPC certification (obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date) Preferred Qualifications Associate or Bachelor's degree AMLS (Advanced Medical List Support) or ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) GEMS Experience: 2 or more years as a field provider at the AEMT level Core Duties and Responsibilities Safety Culture: Lead by example to ensure all activities performed while on duty at Mon EMS are safe for personnel, patients, and the community, including vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, scene management, and routine facilities maintenance. Quality Assurance – Readiness: Ensure vehicles, supplies, controlled substances, and equipment are thoroughly checked and report any discrepancies to the supervisory officer. Work Attitude: Take initiative to complete work assignments without prompting; exert maximum effort, serve as a role model, demonstrate persistence, bring high energy, and maintain an optimistic demeanor. Acting with Integrity: Reduce waste, follow ethical standards, act honestly and with highest integrity, be accountable, accept personal responsibility, and maintain ethical behavior under adversity. Communication: Understand importance of effective communication with coworkers, patients, customers, other emergency responders, dispatching personnel, healthcare professionals, and the public. Problem Solving: Use current information to make educated decisions, understand basic analytical decision processes, concentrate, gather information, and have knowledge of all reasonable job functions of other field providers. Executing Tasks – Response: Respond to all requests in a timely manner; emergency assignments “out of chute” time of 60 seconds; medical transports and interfacility transports arrival within five minutes or earlier. Executing Tasks – Patient Care: Provide excellent patient care based on current EMS district and/or state protocols, QA/QI initiatives, internal Mon EMS benchmarks, evidence-based medicine, and best practices. Quality Assurance – Documentation: Complete and review own patient care and billing documentation for completeness and accuracy before shift end, measured by random sampling of shift documentation. Quality Improvement – Competency & Education: Complete knowledge, psychomotor, and affective domain education assignments, simulation programs, and other programs assigned by Mon EMS or the West Virginia Office of EMS in a timely fashion. Managing Significant Incidents: Respond to multi-patient incidents and serve as an officer in the Incident Command System depending on incident complexity and authority. Civic Responsibility: Understand value of community service, prioritize patient interest, set good example, comply with law and policy, and recognize importance of patient advocacy. Social Knowledge: Understand cultural diversity, knowledge of local history, religious perspectives on ethics, legality, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Work Habits & Attitudes: Initiate completion of job tasks without prompting, including patient care assignments, custodial duties, vehicle cleanliness, routine & special projects, and other duties as assigned. Motivating Others: Understand role as clinical team member, organizational goals, and ensure coworkers comprehend shared objectives. Learning: Demonstrate learning strategies, intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, and seek feedback for personal performance growth.
