Job SummaryConducts an Occupational Therapy program which facilitates rehabilitation of the physically and/or mentally handicapped.Responsibilities• Conducts an Occupational Therapy program designed to help patients gain physical and/or mental functioning to become more self-reliant.• Implements Occupational Therapy treatment through the use of various types of splinting, range of motion, muscle strengthening and re-education of the upper extremities, fine and gross motor coordination techniques, and activities of daily living, homemaking, educational and pre-vocational skills.• Consults and advises other health care team members to select the most appropriate program consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.• Develops a plan for modifying equipment, appliances, and the physical surroundings of the home.• Adapts programs according to the patient's capabilities. Studies the patient s reactions while engaged in activities and prepares reports reflecting these reactions for review and use by other health team members. Evaluates the patient's progress, attitudes, and behavior as related to the rehabilitative potential.• Confers with the attending physician, reports the patient's progress, and maintains records.• Provides family members with information and support to adjust to the patient and help facilitate recovery.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesPatient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.Competency StatementMust demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.Common Duties and Responsibilities(Essential duties common to all positions)1. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations.7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable.9.
