The college expects faculty members to spend approximately three-quarters of their time in teaching responsibilities. The faculty member supports multilingual students in developing academic English proficiency necessary for success in college-level coursework, with emphasis on academic reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and critical thinking skills.ResponsibilitiesTeaches 15 hours per week of elementary to advanced ESL coursesMaintains a minimum of three office hours per week to provide individualized language support, feedback, and academic advisingDevelops and teaches appropriate course content for classroom, remote, and online delivery that conforms to current accessibility standards (including WCAG compliance)Communicates and executes structured lesson plans that incorporate scaffolding, modeling, guided practice, and gradual release of responsibilityClarifies expectations and standards for all assignments, assessments, and class activities, with attention to transparent grading criteria and language-specific outcomesProvides clear, actionable, and developmentally appropriate feedback on student writing and language use, focusing on patterns of error and strategies for revisionUses diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to evaluate language proficiency and academic readinessAdvises multilingual students and demonstrates cultural responsiveness, supporting students academic goals and adjustment to U.S. higher education expectationsPursues professional development in TESOL, applied linguistics, second language acquisition theory, and culturally responsive pedagogy through workshops, conferences, graduate study, and professional organizationsCollaborates with ESL and English faculty to ensure alignment between ESL coursework and college-level composition standardsAssists in developing clearly defined grading standards, common assessments, and curriculum materials to maintain course consistency and academic rigorAssists in selecting course textbooksParticipates in curriculum development, revision, course assessment, and program review activitiesAdheres to departmental and college policiesEngages in college-wide service, including committee work, recruitment, placement testing support, student advising, and community outreach as neededEducation and ExperienceMaster's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, ESL, or a closely related field (a master's degree in English with significant graduate coursework in TESOL or second language acquisition may be considered)Minimum of two years of experience teaching ESL or ELL students at the college or adult education levelExperience teaching academic English (reading, writing, listening, speaking) to multilingual learnersExperience working with diverse linguistic and cultural populationsExperience teaching in accelerated or integrated support models preferredExperience with WCAG/accessibility compliance preferredExperience using placement tools or interpreting language proficiency frameworks (e.g., CEFR) preferredCompetencies and SkillsDemonstrated excellence in teaching multilingual students and diverse student populationsAbility to provide effective written and oral feedback to developing writersCultural competence and commitment to inclusive teaching practicesStrong communication, writing and interpersonal skillsAbility to deliver course instruction on campus (in-person); remotely via Zoom or comparable video conferencing software or online via Blackboard or comparable LMSProficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Slides, and instructional technology toolsAbility to collaborate effectively with faculty across disciplines to support multilingual student successTerms of EmploymentThis position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.J-18808-Ljbffr
