The caregiver is the key person delivering direct hands-on care to the residents. Their work is the centerpiece of the facility's day-to-day operations. Reports to either Shift Manager, Care Coordinator or Administrator.Responsibilities and duties:Know the location and disposition of all residents (under direct care) at all timesEnsure each resident looks clean and presentable throughout the dayAssist with dressing, applying make-up, combing hair, cleaning eyeglasses, and assisting with other personnel grooming tasks as neededKeep residents' rooms in proper order throughout the day, including tidying rooms, making beds and putting clothes awayAssist residents by providing for their comfort, safety and enjoymentKeep any internal charts current, know of each resident's needs and report all observed physical and emotional changes in residents to the shift manager or RCC (Resident Care Coordinator) or Administrator. Report should occur by the end of the shift and should be documented in the change-over notes, unless immediate intervention is neededAttend periodic staff meetings and in-service training and mandatory meeting as requiredRead, follow and sign any care plans and posted messages and/or updates during each shiftObserve Resident's Rights, as posted within the facilityPromptly respond to resident calls for assistanceIn Emergency situations, assist residents according to the Emergency Plan of the facilityAssist with First Aid as directedMaintain a cooperative and cheerful attitude when relating to residents or their guestsAssist with bathing and dressing of residents as scheduled or directedAssist residents at mealtimes as directed or neededAssist residents with personal hygiene needs as needed throughout the shiftAssist residents with daily recreational activities, including crafts, games, music and exercise and encourage participationFollow any written work schedules and service schedulesResidents in group are all receiving quality careAll required documentation being done properly and in timely mannerSchedule is being followedPerform other duties assignedQualifications:Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed (with results) within seven (7) days after hire (unless regulations stipulate completion before employment.) If the exams are not completed within this time, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that fingerprints cards and an affidavit on criminal convictions be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DSS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. An approval must be obtained in order to retain employment.All employees must keep their FIRST-AID certification currentSkills, knowledge and abilities: skill in compassionately caring for elderly, knowledge of proper caregiving techniques and the ability to care for several residents at one timeOrganizational skills: must be able to maintain order and efficiency in performing job duties, maintain constant paceMental: must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure. Must be able to think and make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulationsEducation and experience:High School diploma or equivalent, requiredAt least some prior experience in caringAt least 18 years or older, requiredCertified Nurse Assistant and/or Home Health Aide Certificate, preferredBody positioning: spend time bending, twisting or lifting up to 50 pounds, keeping or regaining balance, making repetitive motions, standing, using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, walking and running
