Apply now.A Brief Summary Of This PositionThis position is responsible for leading the facility’s quality control activities and supervising quality control personnel. The Quality Control Manager works closely with stakeholders in key manufacturing and business processes to ensure that the facility’s operations comply with Quality Management System requirements and demonstrate continuous improvement. This position serves as the Management Representative for Quality for the facility, which entails reporting to executive management on the performance of the Quality Management System, communicating with external parties (including hosting customers, their representatives, and accreditation bodies), and assisting the Quality Assurance group on quality improvement initiatives.Essential FunctionsThis position reports to the Plant Manager and may have 10 to 20 direct reportsEnsure that the Quality Policy is communicated, implemented, and maintained throughout the facilityServe as the facility’s Management Representative for QualitySelect, onboard, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop quality control employees to be successful in their rolesServe as an advocate for the customer, clarifying and reinforcing customer expectations, and fostering a culture of qualityConduct process audits of key manufacturing and business processes to ensure conformance with QMS requirements, and to identify opportunities for improvementMonitor production processes, and intervene when appropriate to support process controlContain, evaluate, and disposition nonconforming product; investigate root cause of nonconformances; and develop, implement, and evaluate corrective actionsSupport the timely and effective resolution of customer complaints, including performing field work when assignedCollect, analyze, and report data related to quality, such as costs of poor qualityReview, validate, and retain quality records and associated reports, ensuring accuracy and completenessAssist team members with interpretation of shop drawings and specifications, QMS requirements, and customer specifications, including obtaining clarification from other functions to ensure that quality requirements are understood and metAssist with the development, delivery, and evaluation of employee training and developmentAssist with the development, review, and implementation of QMS documentsPerform inspection and testing duties assigned, which may include visual/dimensional inspection, welding inspection, coating inspection, and non-destructive testingServe on cross-functional teams to support improvements in organizational performanceEstablish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersOther duties as assignedRequired Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of quality control experience or Associate’s degree with 6 years of quality control experience or 9 years of quality control experienceExcellent leadership, problem solving, planning, customer service, and written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office programsKnowledgeable about welding inspection, coating inspection, and non-destructive testingKnowledgeable about basic quality tools, such as a pareto chart, a fishbone diagram, and root cause analysisBasic knowledge of statistical process control and process capabilityKnowledgeable about steel fabrication operations, such as thermal cutting, forming, welding, painting, galvanizing, and non-destructive testingAble to work independently with minimal supervisionAble to make informed, rational, data-driven decisionsAble to persuade and motivate othersAble to interpret codes and standards, shop drawings, and specificationsHighly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These QualificationsPrevious quality control management experience in an AISC-certified heavy fabrication environmentSNT-TC-1A VT Level II, MT Level II, and UT Level II certificationsAWS CWI certificationNACE CIP Level I certificationCertification as a quality manager or quality engineer (e.g. ASQ CMQ/OE or ASQ CQE)Formal Lean Six Sigma training or experience leading Lean Six Sigma projectsBenefitsValmont offers employees and their families a comprehensive Total Wellbeing benefit package to ensure their individual and family’s overall wellness needs are met.
