Recreation Assistant
General Purpose
The Temporary Recreation Assistant is a versatile, hands-on role that supports a wide range of recreation programs, events, and facility operations. This position works across multiple areas of the recreation center and Parks, Recreation & Waterfront programs to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment for participants of all ages.
This role assists with the on-site delivery of activities, participant engagement, and facility readiness, helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic environment and are comfortable shifting between administrative, programmatic, and operational responsibilities and has availability evenings and weekends primarily, with some daytime coverage.

Pay Grade: $22.00 - $27.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week.
Essential Job Functions
Greet and assist community members in person, by phone, and via email
Provide information on programs, schedules, and facility use
Register participants for programs and process payments
Handle general inquiries and direct more complex issues to appropriate staff
Prepare spaces for programs and rentals (tables, chairs, AV equipment, etc.)
Reset and clean spaces following use
Perform light custodial duties including trash removal, floor care, equipment cleaning, and restroom restock and cleaning regularly
Maintain cleanliness and organization of program and public areas
Assist with maintaining schedules, bulletin boards, and program materials
Support daily reporting, cash handling, and point-of-sale transactions
Help track facility use and program participation
Maintain inventory of supplies and notify staff of needs
Help ensure building safety and security, including opening/closing procedures
Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance needs
Assist with basic upkeep such as clearing entryways and maintaining indoor/outdoor spaces
Support emergency procedures and monthly safety checks
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in an administration office environment with an emphasis in customer service required.
Must be able to work as part of the customer service team in a fast paced, complex detail- oriented office environment that features any repetitive tasks and deadlines.
Outstanding customer service and communications skills required.
Knowledge of recreation facility operations preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Previous experience with point-of-sale and program registration programs preferred.
Ability to maintain positive work relationships in a busy office environment.
Must be able to operate standard and computerized office equipment.
Ability to operate in a Windows based operating environment using word-processing, spreadsheets and specialized database software required.
Ability to operate TTY line and provide appropriate information/routing.
Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions. Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
Ability to obtain a valid driver's license within 45 days of hire and the continue maintenance of a valid drivers' license. Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted
CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Upon conditional offer of employment candidate must successfully complete background investigation, including fingerprinting
