Salary: $64,001.60 - $103,667.20 AnnuallyLocation : Robertsdale, ALJob Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Planning and Zoning - Baldwin County CommissionDivision: Planning and ZoningOpening Date: 01/05/2026Closing Date: ContinuousPosition DescriptionThe Civil Engineer position works with Planning and Zoning staff to manage infrastructure improvements associated with Baldwin County developments. Primary focus will be on reviewing and approving proposed construction plans related to infrastructure development projects to ensure compliance with County ordinances and regulations. The individual will coordinate with consultants, review consultant plans, and will participate in the planning of roads and bridges relating to infrastructure development projects in Baldwin County.This position requires driving as an essential function of the position. Successful applicants must be at least 20 years old, insurable by the County's insurance carrier, pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical.Essential Job FunctionsEngineeringWorks with other County Highway design personnel in all aspects of highway design.Works with other employees and consultants engaged in design, of all public roads, highways, bridges and related drainage structures and other governmental activities.Review of plans and applications submitted by outside survey, engineering, construction, or other miscellaneous service-oriented providers for technical compliance with the County ordinances and regulations.Performs detailed engineering calculations and sizing of drainage structures in accordance with applicable engineering standards as necessary to support the development review process.Performs detailed traffic engineering analysis and makes recommendations for roadway capacity and safety improvements as necessary to support the development review process.Planning and CoordinatingCoordinates with outside agencies (ALDOT, NRCS, Corps of Engineers, etc.) regarding permits, requirements, and regulations for development projects.Assists with grant development and implementation.Assists with reviewing engineering plans and calculations for private developments impacting County projects and infrastructure as needed.MiscellaneousReads literature and attends formal training to improve knowledge and skills for both immediate and long-term application to the job.Assist in coordinating disaster recovery.Attend seminars and conferences related to job domains.Must be highly motivated and organized.Education and ExperienceMinimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (civil preferred) from an Accredited University.EI classification obtained within the first 12 months of employment.Willing to take and pass the Professional Engineering exam.Other CharacteristicsWilling to work non-standard hours as necessary.Willing to attend meetings and other work-related activities.Have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the County's insurance standards.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesVerbal skills to effectively communicate with the public and handle various requests from the public, other departments, and commissioners.Math skills to accomplish any variety of civil engineering typical problems.Writing skills to prepare reports and presentations.Reading skills to read maps, blueprints, technical publications, etc.Skills in planning and scheduling.Knowledge of occupational safety and health requirements.Hear well enough to understand normal conversations.Technical skills to operate complex engineering or GIS related computer programs.Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Baldwin County Commission and Baldwin County Sheriff's Office does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, marital status, disability, citizenship or veteran status in employment.
