Job DescriptionThe Linux System Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Linux server and workstation infrastructure supporting critical weather forecasting systems within the National Weather Service's Pacific Region. This includes ensuring system security, availability, and performance to meet the high demands of weather prediction operations. Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to ensure continuous uptime and service availability. Develop and implement systems administration-related solutions for various projects and operational needs. Maintain best practices for managing systems and services across all environments. Conduct fault finding, analysis, and logging of information for performance exception reporting. Proactively monitor system performance and engage in capacity planning to anticipate and manage growth. Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware. Create and modify scripts or applications to automate tasks and enhance system functionality. Provide input on improving the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment. Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.
