Location: Amarillo, TX - Pantex PlantJob Title: Tool MakerOrganization: Fabrication (51397418)Essential Job DutiesSpecializes in the operation of precision machine tools such as conventional, and computer numerical controlled (CNC) in the construction and/or repair of tooling, gages, jigs, fixtures, or dies, where a high degree of specialized skill and knowledge of tool building practices is requiredWorks from sketches, detail, assembly drawings, and/or from verbal instructions in planning and performing complex machining operationsProcesses items requiring complicated setups with a high degree of accuracy, using a variety of precision measuring instrumentsPerforms complex mathematical calculations writes and/or edits programs for CNC equipment and uses complex tooling and gages in order to accomplish the jobAdheres to Safety and Security regulationsMaintains accurate records and proper maintenance and operation of equipment installations and/or fixturesProduces machined pieces to within tolerances and shapes as specified on detailed and assembly drawingsResponsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Departmnet of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and proceduresRequired to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and ManagementParticipates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controlsUnderstands a worker's right to stop work when they feel their own or other's personal safety is jeopardizedAttends all required safety meetings and trainingOffers suggestions on improvements to the work environmentPerforms other duties as assignedSkills and Minimum Job QualificiationsMust be able to perform all duties and functions outlined aboveMust meet initial employment requirementsMust be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructionsMust be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical EvaluationMust have successfully completed an 8,000 hour Pantex approved Apprenticeship or Trainee Program which provides experience directly related to the craft work currently performed by the Tool & Die Shop, or have four (4) years experience satisfactory to line management in the performance of current Tool & Die Shop work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description, and be familiar with all tools of the craftAll qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proofAbility to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluationEducation* High School Diploma or GEDDOE Order 426.2 Requirements* In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
