Job Title: Secondary English Teacher Job Summary: The Secondary English Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis to students in grades 6-12. The teacher fosters a supportive and inclusive classroom environment while helping students develop strong literacy skills and an appreciation for literature. Key Responsibilities: Plan and implement lessons aligned with state and district curriculum standards Teach a range of topics, including literature, composition, grammar, and vocabulary Encourage critical thinking through discussion, analysis, and writing assignments Assess student learning through essays, exams, projects, and presentations Provide timely and constructive feedback to support academic growth Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities Maintain an organized and positive classroom environment Integrate technology and digital resources into instruction Monitor and report on student progress to parents and school administration Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning and interdisciplinary activities Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred) Valid teaching certification/licensure for secondary education Strong knowledge of English language arts curriculum and instructional strategies Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills Ability to engage and motivate adolescent learners Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching both middle and high school levels Familiarity with standardized testing and assessment practices Experience supporting diverse learners, including ESL/ELL and special education students Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems Work Environment: Classroom setting within a middle or high school May include extracurricular responsibilities (e.g., clubs, tutoring, mentoring) Requires lesson planning, grading, and occasional evening or weekend commitments
