Each teacher is also involved in the House System, which seeks to enhance our mission by emphasizing the integral formation of the whole person. Teachers are involved in the formation of the students by serving as a mentor teacher.This position is specifically looking for someone to teach High School Special Education classes.Personal, Religious and Professional DevelopmentTakes part in the professional and religious activities provided by the Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Peoria and in retreats and workshops offered at The High School of Saint Thomas MoreParticipates in other meetings, activities or opportunities for personal, religious or professional developmentKeeps abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to education and school operation by attending workshops and conferences, reading professional books and periodicals, and taking formal courses.InstructionImplements by instruction and action the philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives of The High School of Saint Thomas More and the Catholic Diocese of PeoriaPrepares course maps and syllabi for each course taught and makes copies available for the administration and the studentsKeeps class lists, seating charts, textbooks, and daily or weekly lesson plans available in the classroom for use by a substitute in case of an unexpected absenceMeets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designatedDevelops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning by developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and by maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just mannerEmploys a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the individual needs of the studentsStudent AssessmentAssesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as requiredMaintains accurate and complete records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulationEstablishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned studentsInstitutional FunctionsAssists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conductTakes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesCooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methodsAssists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materialsAccepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activitiesOtherSubmits measurable personal and professional goals to the Principal at the beginning of each school yearMeets performance recommendations set forth in teacher evaluationAttends and participates in faculty meetings and school functions and serves on staff committees as requiredAttends graduation as requiredPerforms other reasonable duties assigned by the PrincipalQualifications ProfileCertification/License:Illinois State Certification as a Special Education/LBS TeacherEducation:Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.Experience:Successful student-teaching experience for the appropriate grade level.What You Will GetOur gaol at The High School of St. Thomas More is for you to have a rewarding career.We value our employees and offer a Total Rewards package to support your overall well-being including:Salary Range: $30,397-$75,993 (based on experience and education)The salary offered may vary depending on several individualized factors including, by not limited to, job level, market, skills, experience, job-related knowledge, training, and other department needs.
