Classification - ExemptReports to - Local ManagerDate - 1/2026The primary focus of this position will include the scaling, grading and purchasing of logs that meet or exceed the standards set by the company as profitable. Assistance in marketing and the sale of logs not bound for Gutchess Lumber Co., (GLC) facilities, storage of logs, data collection and data transfer, environmental and regulatory compliance, job safety, control and maintenance of GLC wood concentration areas, equipment and property.Responsibilities Accurate Scale and Grade of logs received into the GLC yards.Requires a self-starting motivated individual, able to work independently in remote locations with variable conditions in rain, snow, etc.Supervision of trucking operations related to purchases.Proficient with the use of Excel, Word, GIS, GPS and data collectors a plus.Rolling stockSafe operation of all equipment including chainsaws, wheel loader, hydraulic cranesUnderstand regular maintenanceEnvironmentalUnderstand and comply with State regulations concerned with stream crossing and wetland areasUnderstand and comply with Road Bonding regulations PurchasingUnderstand GLC Forestry Combined proceduresPrepare a weekly report showing your activities, active harvest operations, opportunities, open items and challengesAssist other foresters/timber buyers as needed to promote team buildingWatch the bottom line- limit unnecessary spendingConfidentiality of our business and proceduresProfessionalismInstill in others the company philosophy - hard work, dedication, desire, determinationActing professional at work and in public - you represent the company wherever you areWork safely and exhibit this in othersHonest and truthful feedback - no agendas except to get the job doneEnsure all data is transferred to Cortland timely and accuratelyPerforms other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time commensurate with your education, training, and experience. QualificationsEducationAA Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, other related field preferred Experience3-5 years in experience in Forestry, Natural Resources or other related fieldExperience in - Word, Excel, Outlook, Personal AttributesExcellent Customer Service skills.Good verbal/written communication.Must be punctual and dependable.Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a good driving record Strong attention to detail, accuracy & confidentialityAbility to work in various weather conditions Willing to learn and perform new tasksPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work50 Hours per week during the “core” work hours. Weekend & evening work may be required as job duties demand.$62,353.20-$65,000.00Physical DemandsMust be able to remain in a stationary position 15% Ascends/descends stairs, hills, or other areas in the woods to conduct business 50%Ability to be mobile and use hands, arms, & neck to conduct business in various environments 50%Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, and printerThis position is subject to change at any time due to the business needs.
