Reports To: Store Managers and General Manager Position SummaryAgata & Valentina, one of New York City’s premier Italian specialty food stores seeks a professional, experienced and knowledgeable Cheese Department Manager for our high-volume operation. Successful candidates will be results-driven, self-starters with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for food. The ideal candidates would have great customer service skills, great knowledge of cheeses and experience on how to handle them. It is the Cheese Department Manager’s responsibility to oversee and manage all aspects of the cheese department, including but no limited to: department profitability, displays, inventory control and leading a team to drive sales and customer satisfaction. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct supervision, training, and leadership to assistant department manager and department associates Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guest that enter the department Monitor customer flow and direct team members to meet customer needs promptly Cut, wrap and portion cheeses Achieve department sales goals Control and report accurate product inventory levels to store manager Report and resolve product concerns, such as low inventory and missing products, proactively Schedule hours for department and review time sheets Organize department meetings with staff members Provide adequate department coverage during staff vacations or absences  Knowledge, Skills, and CompetenciesExtensive knowledge of imported and domestic cheeses Strong leadership, training, and motivational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exceptional customer service skills Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management abilities Problem-solving and decision-making skills Proficiency with email and basic computer systems Ability to plan, organize, and execute departmental goals Initiative, dependability, and attention to detail Qualifications and ExperienceMinimum of 3 years of experience working in a cheese department (required) Previous supervisory/management experience (required) Strong understanding of specialty food retail operations and specialty cheeses Familiarity with food and safety standards Flexible schedule including, nights, weekends and holidays BenefitsComprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and holidays Employee discounts Ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities Equal Opportunity StatementAgata & Valentina is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
