Job Description About the Role We are seeking an Applications & Mechanical Design Technologist to join our Engineering team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for translating customer requirements into accurate, manufacturable, and production-ready solutions. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Procurement teams, you will review technical requirements, develop mechanical designs, and ensure projects are fully prepared before being released to production. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, mechanical design, cross-functional collaboration, and working in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Review customer drawings, specifications, and requirements to ensure completeness and manufacturability - Identify and resolve technical gaps, inconsistencies, and potential production risks - Support the Sales team with feasibility reviews and technical costing information - Define and document technical requirements, including materials, tolerances, and functional expectations - Develop and refine mechanical designs, layouts, assemblies, and production solutions - Create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD - Prepare production-ready documentation including drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and specifications - Maintain accurate engineering data and documentation within the ERP system - Collaborate with Production, Procurement, and Engineering teams to ensure successful project execution - Provide technical guidance to support manufacturing efficiency and quality standards - Manage design revisions, engineering changes, and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle - Identify opportunities for process improvements related to design, order intake, and manufacturability - Support continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering and Production departments Requirements Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field - Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, or pre-production engineering - Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 2D and 3D design - Experience working with ERP systems (Odoo preferred) - Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes - Knowledge of machining, fabrication, materials, and assembly methods - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications - Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills - Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications - Experience in metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing environments preferred Growth & Development Opportunities - Opportunity to work closely with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Procurement teams - Exposure to custom manufacturing and made-to-order product development - Involvement in process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives - Professional growth within Engineering and Manufacturing Operations Company Description Weller Metalworks is a private equity-backed manufacturing company with operations in the United States and Canada.
