Pharmacy Technician #1645 - Pharmacy - Health & Social Services Division

The Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division has a responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently when public health emergencies occur. All Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division employees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is current and they are accessible should a public health emergency arise. The Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division maintains a call down system to store contact information and mobilize staff in the event of an emergency. During a public health emergency, all staff are required to respond should a call to mobilize be made. During a public health emergency, work hours for any and all Hamilton County Health & Social Services Division employees are subject to modification to meet the needs of the community.Under general supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, dispenses non-controlled pharmaceuticals (drugs, medications, and medical supplies) whose distribution are prohibited by law without a prescription from a licensed doctor, dentist, optometrist or veterinarian to Health Department Clinical sites.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, physical requirements, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.Assist pharmacist with the following activities:receiving, inventory management, and distribution of drugs and vaccines.receiving of request for vaccines or medications from Health Department Clinics.pre-packing drugs for distribution to Health Department Clinics in a timely and accurate manner.conducting routine inventories at clinic sites and/or deliver medications upon request.maintaining records, files and logsentering information into computerized database system for tracking, updating and compliance requirements.performing other related duties as assigned by the pharmacist within the pharmacy or at clinic sites.Knowledge of federal, state, county, and Health Department laws, rules, regulations, protocol, policies and procedures related to the dispensing of legend drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and devices.Knowledge of pharmacy administration policies and procedures.Knowledge of record keeping/file maintenance methods and practices.Knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals.Knowledge of customer service/public relations practices and procedures.Knowledge of medication dispensing including names of common medications.Skill accurately and safely dispensing legend and over the counter medications, medical supplies and devices.Skill utilizing written communication in the development of reports and maintenance of records/files.Skill maintaining and updating computer databases.Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.Skill effectively communicating in both oral and written form.A high school diploma or the equivalent and a valid driver's license. Must be registered with the State of Tennessee Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) at the time of hire or obtain certification within three (3) months of date of hire.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:May require additional training or certifications depending on assignment. Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.This position is deemed essential/situational during inclement weather situations and must report to or remain at work, even when administrative closings are announced, as determined by the Department Head.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work requires stooping, bending and lifting of medical supplies and devices weighing up to 75 pounds; extensive keyboarding; extensive sitting with intermittent standing and walking.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
