Process Engineer
Location: Swanton/Toledo, Ohio AreaPosition Type: Full-Time, Direct HireOur client, a leading player in the North American energy and downstream sector, is currently seeking a high-level Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their refining operations in Northern Ohio.This is a critical leadership-level technical role designed for a safety professional who views process safety as a core business value. You will be the primary technical authority for safeguarding the facility, ensuring that rigorous engineering standards are met to maintain a “zero-harm” operational environment.The RoleAs a subject matter expert, you will bridge the gap between technical engineering and site leadership. Your focus will be on the continuous improvement of risk management frameworks and the execution of robust safety protocols.Key Responsibilities:Regulatory Authority: Act as the site lead for US federal compliance, specifically regarding OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA Risk Management Programs (RMP).Technical Facilitation: Lead and document high-level safety studies including PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and Major Accident Hazard (MAH) assessments.Change Management: Oversight of the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure modifications do not introduce unforeseen risks.Incident Investigation: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for site incidents, ensuring lessons learned are institutionalized to prevent recurrence.Audit Management: Coordinate internal and third-party audits (including insurance and regulatory inspections), managing the lifecycle of corrective actions through to completion.Strategy & Culture: Partner with refinery leadership to set performance benchmarks and serve as a "change agent" for a proactive safety culture across all departments.The CandidateWe are looking for a seasoned engineer who possesses a deep technical background in heavy industrial processing, ideally within oil refining or large-scale petrochemicals.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical science/safety discipline.Experience: 8+ years of direct experience in process safety or technical engineering within a refinery or chemical plant environment.Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of OSHA PSM standards and EPA RMP rules.Analytical Skills: Proven track record in facilitating HAZOP/LOPA and utilizing Root Cause Analysis methodologies.Leadership: Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, from field operators to executive plant leadership.Why Apply?The hiring company is recognized as a top-tier employer in the energy industry, known for its commitment to professional development and internal mobility.
