No H1B transfers please.The Database Development Lead is responsible for driving the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of application‑driven database solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise in SQL/PL‑SQL development, data modeling, scripting, performance optimization, and hands‑on database engineering. The position also leads a team of database developers and collaborates closely with DBAs, architects, and application leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and high‑performing database systems. Certain responsibilities such as performance tuning, PL/SQL, scripting, and collaboration with application/IT teams are consistent with industry DBA/lead roles. Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Development & EngineeringDevelop and maintain complex stored procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and other PL/SQL code objects.(PL/SQL required for Oracle DBA roles)Design and maintain partitioned tables to improve performance and manage large datasets efficiently.Build, optimize, and review SQL queries to support application needs and reporting workflows.Implement database versioning, code reviews, and development standards.Performance Engineering & MonitoringConduct advanced performance tuning using AWR, ADDM, Statspack, indexing strategies, and optimizer tuning to resolve bottlenecks.(AWR/Statspack tuning mentioned as core responsibilities)Implement and monitor performance dashboards, space usage metrics, and alerting for database growth and system health.Perform query optimization to reduce latency and improve application throughput.(Performance tuning and optimization is a required skill)Automation, Scripting & ToolsDevelop automation scripts using Shell Scripting and Python for database utilities, monitoring, deployments, archival, logging, and reporting.(Shell scripting and scripting languages are relevant skills in DBA/Lead roles)Build utilities for data movement, validation, and scheduled processing.Archival, Backup & Restore ProcessDesign and maintain database archival strategies, purging frameworks, and data lifecycle processes.Build automated workflows to archive and restore datasets ensuring compliance and performance.Partner with DBAs to align archival/restore processes with backup and recovery frameworks.(Backup and recovery responsibilities exist in lead DBA roles)Space Management & Capacity PlanningMonitor and manage tablespace utilization, segment growth, partition management, and storage planning.Provide forecasting for capacity based on workloads and application roadmaps.(Capacity management is part of lead admin roles)Team Leadership & CollaborationLead and mentor the Database Development Team, assigning tasks, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring adherence to development best practices.Work closely with the DBA team to coordinate deployments, troubleshoot issues, and align on environment standards.(Collaboration with developers and IT teams cited)Coordinate with the application development leadership to plan database deliverables aligned with business priorities.Engage in design sessions, architecture reviews, and development planning cycles.Reporting & Analytics SupportBuild Ad‑hoc SQL reports, data extracts, and analytics queries for leadership and application owners.Support business teams by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of generated datasets.Required Qualifications12+ years of experience in Oracle SQL/PL‑SQL development, database design, and performance tuning.(PL/SQL, performance tuning are key skills)Strong experience with Shell Scripting and Python automation.Expertise in query optimization, indexing, execution plan analysis, and data modeling.Hands-on experience with AWR/ADDM, table partitioning, and schema‑level performance tuning.(AWR/Statspack performance tuning referenced)Experience with archival strategy design, restore processes, and data lifecycle management.Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide technical teams.(Leadership and mentoring skills part of lead roles)Preferred QualificationsExperience collaborating with DBA, infrastructure, and security teams in enterprise environments.Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR reports, and performance diagnostics tools.Knowledge of DevOps/automation pipelines for database code deployments.
