Activity Specialist - Graphic Design Mentor
Graphic Design Mentor As a Graphic Design Mentor, you will lead teens in creating their own line of graphic t-shirts, bags and stickers. They'll learn to design a cohesive collection and gain hands-on experience with screen printing, vinyl cutting and design software. As part of our Youth Services Department's vision: All Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all Grand Street Settlement sites.Education, Experience and Qualification Requirements:High School Diploma required; College Degree PreferredPassion for Graphic Design and a life-long learner.Experience mentoring or educating youth (especially teens 13-19)Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), animation, and an overall a good eye for design and visual artsA problem solver and creative thinker. Will come with new ideas and be ready to execute them.Ideal candidate has previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in their specialized fieldsCandidate must be very responsible; organized & demonstrate positive communication skillsIdeal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check.Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all membersCandidates must be able to motivate members while setting an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance and most importantly, professionalismEssential Duties, Responsibilities & Outcomes:Guide teens on how to create and produce graphic designs on various textilesGuide them in working as a collaborative design team, encouraging creativity and feedback sharingHelp them build practical skills in screen printing and design softwareDesired Outcomes:Teens finish with wearable pieces they can showcase and add to their portfoliosThey learn how to bring graphic design ideas to life and work effectively in a creative teamEncourage innovation by helping teens integrate design and engineering principlesCreating a supply list for required program supplies.Responsible for supervising all participants particularly during activitiesEnsuring safety of all participants.Maintaining space, equipment, tools, and program supplies in an organized and clean fashion.Reporting all incidents/ injuries/theft immediately to the Teen Tech Center Coordinator/ Mentor CoordinatorAssist with all aspects of programming (following organization's mission, supervising all youth, working collectively, and communicating with all staff)Take initiative to guide members through their projects.Meet with Teen Tech Center Coordinator/ Mentor Coordinator to discuss progress and project updates.Help reinforce all community agreements.Other duties as assignedEqual Opportunity Employer (EOE)
