JOB REQUIREMENTS: INTRODUCTION: The Racine Police Department serves theCity of Racine in Southeastern Wisconsin with a population of 77,816people. POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of theCrossing Guard Supervisor, assist in the control of vehicular andpedestrian traffic at an assigned location for a prescribed period oftime to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and the safe, orderly flowof vehicular traffic. These part-time duties are performed during theschool year from late August to early June. Crossing Guards work underthe general supervision of the Crossing Guard Supervisor. ReliefCrossing Guards must be able to report to work with very little noticeto substitute for regular Crossing Guards, there is no guarantee ofhours and shifts may vary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Report to an assignedcrossing, in uniform at the appointed time. Direct and control vehicularand pedestrian traffic at assigned crossing. Give clear, concise handsignals to stop vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic. Make sure signalsare understood and obeyed before moving either vehicular or pedestriantraffic. Ensure that children cross only at the proper location. Preventmovement of vehicular traffic until all pedestrians have completelycrossed the street. Must be available on short notice.
