This role also plays a key part in developing, maintaining, and sustaining the Distribution Engineering curriculum.The Technical Training Specialist serves as a strategic liaison between Engineering Leadership and the Training organization, ensuring alignment between technical training programs and business needs across regions. The ideal candidate brings experience in Distribution Engineering and technical training, along with strong collaboration skills and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, practical, and impactful learning experiences.ResponsibilitiesTraining Design & DevelopmentDesign, develop, and update instructor-led (ILT), virtual, and eLearning content using established instructional design practices (e.g., ADDIE)Develop training programs to support new systems, tools, and engineering processesMaintain and continuously improve the Distribution Design Engineering curriculum to ensure relevance and effectivenessEnsure all training materials align with current engineering standards, processes, and regulatory requirementsTraining Delivery & FacilitationDeliver engaging training sessions to Distribution Designers, Engineers, and other Duke Energy employees across multiple regions (in-person and virtual)Facilitate learning experiences that drive knowledge retention, skill development, and on-the-job applicationSupport onboarding, progression, and upskilling programs within the Distribution Design curriculumDevelop training plans to support business initiatives and project implementationsCoordinate logistics for successful training delivery (scheduling, materials, and communication)Stakeholder Partnership & SME SupportAct as a liaison between Engineering Leadership and the Engineering Training team to align training priorities and solutionsPartner with cross-functional teams to assess training needs and recommend effective learning solutionsRepresent Distribution Engineering as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on projects and cross-functional initiativesConduct Designer observations to maintain awareness of field practices, process changes, and evolving business needsCommunicate insights, trends, and training impacts to leadership, including presenting to senior-level stakeholdersLearning Management System (LMS) Management & Training OperationsCreate, schedule, and manage training events and sessions within the LMSTrack training completions, attendance, and performance metrics to support compliance and reporting needsAnalyze training data to identify gaps and opportunities for improvementContinuous Improvement & Program SupportEvaluate training effectiveness and recommend enhancements based on feedback and performance trendsSupport training initiatives from analysis through implementationStay current on emerging training methods, tools, and industry best practicesBasic QualificationsHighschool Diploma/GED and 5+ years of Engineering Design ExperiencePreferred QualificationsAssociate Degree in Engineering, Power Systems Management, or other Engineering DegreeExperience collaborating effectively with SMEs, leadership, and cross-functional teamsStrong facilitation, communication, and organizational skillsExperience working as a Distribution Designer or within an electric utility distribution environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Additional Preferred QualificationsExperience in Distribution Engineering, Utilities, or Technical Operations environmentsFamiliarity with engineering design processes and technical curriculum developmentExperience supporting system implementations or process changesKnowledge of training evaluation models (e.g., Kirkpatrick)Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., MyLearning or equivalent)Working knowledge of instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE)Experience developing and delivering technical training (ILT, virtual, and/or eLearning)Experience with engineering tools and systems (e.g., Maximo, GIS, design tools, CAD)Experience in the following Tools & Technologies:Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Teams, SharePoint, OneNote)Learning Management Systems (MyLearning or equivalent)Engineering tools such as Maximo, GIS systems, and design/CAD applicationsPower BI (preferred)Working ConditionsHybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period.
