Network Specialist - Intermediate
Job Description
The Network Specialist supports daily IT operations by managing networks, troubleshooting issues, coordinating with vendors, guiding staff, and assisting with systems projects, quality reviews, and policy discussions across DoD information systems.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems operations
Design, build, and implement network systems
Direct compilation of records and reports concerning network operations and maintenance
Troubleshoot network performance issues
Analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions
Monitor and respond to complex technical control facility hardware and software problems
Interface with vendor support service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance
Manage purchase, testing, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/MAN/WAN systems
Perform system-level design and configuration of products, including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications
Plan large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies
Perform systems engineering tasks and activities involving major systems design, integration, and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budget, and support facilities/equipment
Provide quality assurance review and evaluation of new and existing software products
Provide assistance and oversight for information systems operations, including:
Computer and telecommunications/communications operations
Data entry and data control
LAN/MAN/WAN administration and operations support
Operating systems programming
System security policy procedures
Web strategy and operations
Provide input to policy-level discussions regarding standards and budget constraints
Supervise personnel engaged in operation and support of network facilities, including communications equipment on various platforms in large-scale or multi-shift operations
Supervise complex operations involving multiple functions such as network operations, systems security, systems software support, and production support activities
Monitor and respond to hardware, software, and network problems
Provide routine testing and analysis of all elements of network facilities, including power, software, communications machinery, lines, modems, and terminals
Required Education & Experience
High School diploma and at least 7 years of experience is required.
Ability to work in a team environment, but self-driven to complete assignments while continually developing proficiencies in processes.
Strong written and verbal communications, team building and collaboration skills.
Certification Requirements
DoD-8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent).
Desired Qualifications:
Prior experience at DISA, or knowledge of DISA systems and processes.
Basic understanding of Department of Defense, its policies, and hierarchy.
Basic understanding of DISA organizational structure and how different elements (DITCO, etc.) contribute to fulfilling mission partner TSR requirements.
Network certifications (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
Clearance Requirements
Active DoD SECRET is required.
Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.)
Position is on site at Government facility. Remote work is not available.
$75,000 - $85,000 a year
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
The posted range is appropriate for a typical candidate meeting, at a minimum, all the core requirements of the position.
