Professional Services Sr. Network Engineer

As a Professional Services Sr. Network Engineer at STEP, you will lead the most complex projects. You will oversee and perform the installation of network products such as switches, routers and firewalls and perform installation activities that include initial setup following standard configuration guidelines, cabling, labeling, documentation, and verification.What Success Looks LikeBe always a team player, raising awareness of risks, while supporting the teams’ design, implementation, and support of our solutions. Willing to jump in and assist with any work efforts or responsibilities as needed.Develop and maintain effective relationships with management, customers, partners, and team members.Be part of a supportive team that develops and deploys solutions that exceeds expectations and affects improvement.Strive for excellence, both personal and professional.Channel your enthusiasm to innovate, educate and improve.Maintain vendor certifications, knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in the Telecommunications industry; apply this knowledge to recommend and implement process and policy changes.Be responsive to customer and co-worker communications, problem solving needs and rapid resolution.Core Duties And ResponsibilitiesThis is not a network administrator role – it is a Professional Services delivery role focused on planning, implementing, and delivering solutions that achieve real outcomes for our customers.Troubleshoot complex issues.Deploy and configure enterprise network solutions (switching, routing, wireless, and security) across multi-vendor environments.Dive deep into customer networks to uncover and untangle performance and scalability issues.Ensure that the networks you deliver take into consideration performance and security implications without unneeded complexity.Translate and communicate technical concepts, information, plans, and procedures to both technical personnel and non-IT business users.Perform installation, configuration, validation, and documentation following STEP’s established delivery standards.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with a root-cause mindset, ensuring a positive customer experience.Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, and peers to ensure technical clarity and project alignment.Contribute to continuous improvement through documentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration with your team.Quarterback project teams ensuring the delivery of “best in breed” solutions. Demonstrate your understanding of all 7 layers of the OSI model with an emphasis on dynamic and static routing, layer 2 protocols, IP Addressing and security best practices.Attain industry standard and manufacturer specific certifications directed by STEP CG leadership.Thrive on a team that is experienced, imaginative, and extremely supportive of one another.Support our collective desire to innovate through collaboration on projects, trainings, and team building.Travel as needed per project requirements.Ideal Candidate’s Qualifications And ExperienceWe’re looking for engineers who are passionate about solving problems, learning continuously, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. We value a drive to deliver outcomes, not just configurations.Any combination of training, education, and/or experience that provides for the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties listed above, including a degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or related field; technical certifications; or experience in a managed service provider environment.Experience in Professional Services delivery or customer-facing project work.Familiarity with solutions from Extreme Networks, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Cradlepoint.Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent vendor certifications.Experience with network design principles, automation tools, or monitoring/reporting platforms.Hands-on experience with enterprise switching, routing, wireless, or firewall technologies.Proven ability to deploy and troubleshoot multi-vendor network environments.Strong ownership mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver against project timelines.Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Fluency in layers 1 through 3 of the OSI model.Ability to detect and resolve multivendor technical issues at all 7 OSI layers.Experience with fabric networks including 802.1aq Shortest Path Bridging.Proficiency in dynamic routing such as BGP, OSPF and ISIS.Experience with next-gen firewalls, VPN, IPSEC, Multicast, RADIUS/NAC.Ability to effectively communicate with strong command in the English language.About STEP Professional ServicesAt STEP, our mission is simple: to explore what’s possible, helping our customers use technology to solve business problems and achieve measurable outcomes.
