Software EngineerBaltimore, MD; Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA 12-Month Contract-to-Hire The Customer Tech Infrastructure team at one of our largest Fortune 100 Energy clients is participating in Brooksource’s Elevate Program and is seeking a Software Engineer to support backend development and operational support efforts within the Oracle Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) platform. This role will focus on enhancing core customer systems while also supporting day-to-day operations and issue resolution. Following a recent CC&B implementation, the team is in a stabilization and enhancement phase, requiring additional support to maintain system performance and deliver ongoing improvements. This individual will contribute to application development, production support, and platform enhancements, working closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.Brooksource’s Elevate Program is intended for early-career professionals ready to take their career to the next level! The ideal candidate will have a foundation in Java development and SQL, a willingness to support live production systems, and a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field2-3 years of experience in software development or application supportFoundational experience with Java (backend development preferred)Basic to intermediate SQL skills (queries, joins, data analysis)Understanding of relational databases (Oracle preferred)Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologiesExperience or exposure to Azure DevOps (ADO) or similar tools for work trackingStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsExcellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environmentBonus QualificationsExposure to Oracle CC&B or similar enterprise billing platformsUnderstanding of production support or incident management processesFamiliarity with utility industry concepts (Customer Care, Billing, Meter-to-Cash)Experience troubleshooting applications or supporting live systemsKey Responsibilities:Support backend development efforts for enhancements to the Oracle CC&B platformAssist in designing, developing, and testing code to support new features and system improvementsWrite and execute SQL queries to support data analysis, troubleshooting, and reportingProvide operational support for the CC&B system, including participating in issue resolution and incident responseJoin troubleshooting calls to help diagnose and resolve production issues in a timely mannerCollaborate with team members to identify root causes and implement fixesUtilize Azure DevOps (ADO) to track work items such as bugs, enhancements, and user storiesPartner with business and technical teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutionsAssist in maintaining system performance, stability, and reliabilityContribute to documentation of technical solutions, processes, and system changesContinuously build knowledge of enterprise systems, backend development, and utility business processesWhat’s in it for you?
