Mechanical Construction Inspector (Steam)

📍 Perry Point VA Medical Center, MDAbout the RoleSeeking an experienced construction professional to support a federal project at the Perry Point VA Medical Center. This role is focused on construction oversight and coordination for ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including underground steam and condensate system replacement.This is not a field installation role. The position supports the government as an owner-side representative, ensuring construction activities are progressing safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily field observations to monitor construction progress, safety, and quality of workCoordinate with contractors, project teams, and facility personnel in an active campus environmentReview construction activities against drawings, specifications, and project requirementsIdentify and communicate field issues, discrepancies, and non-conforming workSupport project coordination efforts including meetings, documentation, and progress trackingMaintain project records including field notes, photos, and reportsAssist with project closeout activities including punch list follow-upThese responsibilities align with standard construction inspection and documentation roles, which typically involve ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards while maintaining daily records and coordination with project stakeholders. QualificationsBackground in mechanical construction, plumbing, steam systems, or related fieldExperience working in institutional or active facility environments (VA, hospital, campus, etc.)Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specificationsExperience coordinating with contractors, project managers, or facility personnelStrong field awareness, communication skills, and attention to detailPreferred:Experience with steam distribution systems or utility infrastructure projectsPrior experience supporting construction administration, inspection, or coordination rolesOSHA 10 or 30 certificationWork EnvironmentActive construction environment within an operating VA campusPrimarily on-site role with regular interaction with contractors and facility staffStandard daytime hours aligned with construction activities
