Communicator III (Multiple Opportunities)

Performs specialized shift work receiving emergency calls from the public and dispatching the appropriate emergency vehicle and/or personnel to the scene of the emergency. Responsible for accurate, rapid, and effective receipt and transmission of primarily emergency information over a complex and varied communications system. Provides Basic Life Support (BLS) instructions, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation( CPR), to the emergency callers. Uses Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for geographic research and recordkeeping purposes. QUALIFICATIONS This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following: • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of experience in emergency dispatching AND valid State of Florida Department of Health (DOH) Certification as a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT The selected candidate for this position MUST obtain the following certifications within 11 months of hire: • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) • CPR • Teletypewriter (TTY) Text Telephone. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred qualifications include: • Experience with customer service (handling customer problems/concerns), • Experience using CAD, • Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services/Fire Science/Communications/related field, • Current EMD/CPR certifications, and • Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
