Payroll Accountant

Atrium is seeking on behalf of our client a Payroll Accountant based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. A background check may be run only after a conditional offer is made, where permitted by law.Position: Payroll AccountantLocation: Fort Lauderdale, FLEmployment Type: Full-timeCompensation: $60,000 to $65,000Position OverviewThe Payroll Accountant will play a key role in supporting payroll and accounting operations, ensuring accurate processing of payroll and related journal entries. This position collaborates closely with HR and benefits teams to maintain compliance, support audits, and provide exceptional employee service. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.ResponsibilitiesEnter journal entries for payroll and related accounting tasks, including adjustments.Manage new hire onboarding and maintain employee records, ensuring compliance with audits and documentation requirements.Provide employee support for payroll inquiries, timekeeping, and benefits enrollment while maintaining confidentiality.Process payroll adjustments, terminations, off-cycle payrolls, and validate timekeeping records.Conduct audits for workers’ compensation and retirement plans.Handle multistate payroll processing and maintain compliance with applicable regulations.Prepare and maintain payroll, compliance, and audit reports, including quarterly new hire activity.Assist with benefits administration, including enrollments, 401(k) changes, and vendor file audits.Serve as a cross-trained payroll backup for funding reports, severance processing, and employee data updates.Required Experience/Skills4+ years of experience in payroll and accounting.Multistate payroll processing experience.Proficiency in journal entries and related accounting functions.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Preferred Experience/SkillsExperience in HR administration, payroll processing, or benefits administration.Familiarity with Time & Attendance systems.Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting.Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.Education RequirementsHigh School diplomaContinuing education in payroll compliance or HR practices is desirable.BenefitsIf eligible under the ACA, medical, dental and vision benefits and time off in accordance with local paid sick time laws will be offered.
