Automotive CAE Safety Engineer
Job Description
The Passive Safety Performance Engineer is responsible for ensuring vehicle-level crash safety performance throughout the development lifecycle. The role focuses on occupant protection, crashworthiness, and compliance with global safety standards using simulation, testing, and engineering analysis.Develop and execute passive safety performance requirements for vehicle programsEnsure compliance with global safety regulations and consumer crash test protocols (FMVSS, NCAP, IIHS, etc.)Perform and support crash simulations including: Frontal impactSide impactRear impactRollover scenariosConduct CAE analysis and correlation with physical crash test dataAnalyze crash performance issues and perform root cause analysisWork with engineering teams to improve: Vehicle structuresEnergy absorption systemsOccupant restraint systemsSupport optimization of safety systems including: AirbagsSeatbeltsOccupant protection systemsDefine and validate safety performance targets and metricsProvide engineering recommendations for design improvementsPrepare technical documentation and present results to stakeholdersSupport program milestone deliverables for safety validationRequirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, or related engineering fieldExperience in vehicle crash safety, passive safety, or crashworthiness engineeringStrong understanding of: CAE simulation tools (LS-DYNA, Abaqus, HyperMesh, or equivalent)CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or similar)Experience with: Crash simulation and validationTest data correlationEngineering root cause analysisKnowledge of vehicle structures and crash energy managementFamiliarity with automotive safety standards and regulationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work in cross-functional engineering environments
