Position: Java Developer – Copilot / GenAI–Enabled Location: Onsite/Hybrid (Boston, MA) Job Type: Contract / Contract to Hire Job Overview: NextAmp is looking for an embedded Java Developer GitHub Copilot to help enterprise engineering teams turn GitHub Copilot from an occasional coding aid into a disciplined, daily engineering practice. This is not simply a developer role. We are looking for someone who is energized by AI-assisted engineering, stays current with how the tools are evolving, and is passionate about helping other developers build confidence and capability. Roles & Responsibilities: Coach developers directly in the IDE through pairing, live code review, and support on real production work Teach practical techniques for prompting, context management, planning, testing, debugging, and reviewing AI-generated code Champion effective use of Copilot across the engineering organization Stay current on new Copilot capabilities, agentic coding patterns, and emerging AI development tools Design and deliver workshops, office hours, playbooks, and reusable reference material Partner with engineering leaders to integrate Copilot into existing workflows, standards, and review practices Establish adoption, quality, and productivity measures and use feedback to improve the program Define clear guardrails for security, licensing, code quality, and human oversight What You Bring Strong, current experience using GitHub Copilot across real software-development workflows Working-engineer credibility and the ability to understand, evaluate, and improve production code Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and a habit of continuously learning as the tools evolve Strong coaching and facilitation skills, with the energy to engage both individual developers and larger groups Ability to earn the trust of skeptical senior engineers through practical, demonstrated value Experience with enterprise software delivery, modernization, testing, and code-review practices Comfort working across developers, engineering leaders, security teams, and other enterprise stakeholders Bonus Points Experience with Claude Code or other agentic coding tools Perspective on how multiple AI coding tools compare and complement one another Experience measuring developer adoption, productivity, or engineering effectiveness Expected Outcomes Sustained improvement in how developers use Copilot in real engineering work Measurable gains in delivery speed, quality, or developer effectiveness without weakening engineering controls A growing internal community of confident Copilot users and champions Repeatable practices, playbooks, and guardrails that teams can apply independently A self-sustaining enablement program that continues beyond the engagement Working Hours - 8am EST - 5pm EST
