Job Title: Payments Technology Specialist Intern Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 3 days on-site per weekWorking Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PMLocation: New York, NYEmployment Type: Internship - UnpaidDepartment: Product / Technical Operations / Payment TechnologyAbout the RoleWe are looking for a Payments Technology Specialist Intern to support our payment technology operations, including payment terminals, gateway systems, merchant onboarding, technical troubleshooting, and product testing. This role is ideal for students with a Computer Science or Electrical Engineering background who are interested in fintech, payment systems, POS terminals, embedded devices, and transaction processing.The intern will work closely with the Product, Operations, Sales, and Technical Support teams to help ensure smooth deployment and usage of payment hardware and software solutions for merchants, ISOs, and technology partners.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with payment terminal setup, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.Support gateway and terminal-related technical issues, including transaction flow, device connectivity, and payment application behavior.Help test new product features, terminal software updates, and payment workflows.Document technical issues, testing results, and troubleshooting steps clearly for internal teams.Work with cross-functional teams to support merchant onboarding and deployment.Assist in analyzing transaction-related issues such as failed payments, connection errors, settlement problems, or device configuration mismatches.Support internal product documentation, user guides, and technical SOPs.Learn and assist with payment industry concepts such as EMV, PCI, E2EE, POS systems, payment gateways, and processor integrations.QualificationsCurrently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.Basic understanding of software, hardware, networks, APIs, or system troubleshooting.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Comfortable learning technical products and explaining issues clearly.Ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams.Strong communication skills and willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks.Interest in fintech, payment technology, POS systems, or transaction processing.Preferred QualificationsExperience with APIs, databases, logs, or basic scripting is a plus.Familiarity with Android-based terminals, POS devices, or embedded systems is a plus.Previous internship, project, or coursework related to fintech, software engineering, hardware systems, or technical support is preferred.Bilingual English/Chinese communication skills are a plus.What You Will LearnHow modern payment gateway and terminal systems operate in real business environments.How payment hardware, software, processors, and merchant systems connect together.How to troubleshoot payment technology issues from both a product and technical operations perspective.How fintech companies support merchants, ISOs, ISVs, and payment partners.Practical experience in a fast-paced payment technology startup environment.
