Senior Virtualization Engineer

Overview In this role you design, deploy, and manage high-availability virtualization infrastructure for AFNCR IT services, focusing on VMware and Nutanix environments. You will collaborate with cybersecurity and network teams to deliver secure, compliant solutions that support critical Air Force missions. The position involves leading migrations, maintaining patches, and documenting operations to enable audits and ongoing reliability. ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, configure, and maintain VMware/Nutanix clusters for AFDWMonitor performance and scalability, conduct root-cause analysisProvide SME-level support and train other engineers on virtualizationApply patches and upgrades to hyper-converged software and hardwareLead migrations from legacy platforms to NutanixDevelop and maintain virtualization documentation for security/complianceParticipate in IDR/CCB and coordinate with cross-functional teamsMonitor using VMware Aria Operations and manage capacity planningEnsure DoD compliance (DISA STIGs, NIST SP 800-171) and collaborate with cybersecuritySupport on-call rotations Key requirementsBachelor's degree with 12+ years (or Master’s with 10+ years)Active DoD security clearance (Secret or TS)10+ years’ infrastructure engineering with VMware/NutanixCurrent 8140 IAT Level II certificate (CompTIA Security+)Active VMware and Nutanix certifications (VCP, NCP/NCSE)Deep VMware/Nutanix virtualization knowledge (AOS, AHV, Prism, Flow)Proficiency in Windows Server and LinuxExperience with DISA STIGs and NIST SP 800-171Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholderscommunicationcollaborationproblem-solvingVMware vCenter and ESXiNutanix AHV/PRISM/FlowNutanix AOS
