Surgical Technologist
Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room, providing essential support to surgeons and medical staff during surgical procedures. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who is adept at maintaining a sterile environment, assisting with surgical instruments, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process. The ideal candidate will have experience in various surgical settings, including ambulatory surgery centers and trauma centers, and possess a strong understanding of medical terminology and infection control protocols.
Duties
Prepare and maintain the sterile field for surgical procedures.
Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies during operations.
Monitor vital signs of patients throughout the surgical process.
Ensure all necessary equipment is functioning properly before surgery begins.
Collaborate with nursing staff to provide comprehensive patient care.
Adhere to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of complications.
Participate in the preparation of patients for surgery, including positioning and draping.
Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures and inventory of instruments.
Assist in pediatric surgeries, demonstrating knowledge of physiology specific to children.
Support emergency medicine procedures as needed within a Level I Trauma Center.
Skills
Proficient in medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures.
Knowledgeable in infection control practices to ensure patient safety.
Experience working in an ambulatory surgery center or similar environment.
Familiarity with vital signs monitoring and emergency response techniques.
Understanding of physiology, particularly in pediatrics and PICU settings.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced environments.
Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with medical teams.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for maintaining sterile environments.
