Overview: The medical director is involved at all levels of individualized patient care and supervision, and for all persons served by the facility. The medical director serves as the clinician who oversees and guides the care that is provided, a leader to help define a vision of quality improvement, an operations consultant to address day-to-day aspects of organizational function, and a direct supervisor of the medical practitioners who provide the direct patient care.
Your Role
Role 1—Physician Leadership The medical director serves as the physician responsible for the overall care and clinical practice carried out at the facility.
Role 2—Patient Care-Clinical Leadership The medical director applies clinical and administrative skills to guide the facility in providing care.
Role 3—Quality of Care The medical director helps the facility develop and manage both quality and safety initiatives, including risk management.
Role 4—Education, Information, and Communication The medical director provides information that helps others (including facility staff, practitioners, and those in the community) understand and provide care
Duties:
● Complete initial evaluations on a weekly basis and as needed for crisis cases ● Provide leadership and participate in developing a vision and service line opportunities for behavioral health programming that meets community need and is financially and operationally sustainable.
● Serve as Medical Director of clinical programs engaged in psychiatric care and primary care; provide medical supervision and administrative direction to medical providers who provide care to patients including advance practice nurses and support the staff
● Assist in the development and maintenance of the clinical program by consulting on protocols, standardized procedures and schedules to assure regulatory compliance with CMS.
● Attend and/or facilitate meetings with other departments, area groups and agencies including but not limited to:
● Multidisciplinary treatment team meetings on a regular and as needed basis.
● Monthly reviews of current topics, difficult cases, internal issues, and scheduling with treatment team and other physicians and/or providers Monthly report out on quality metrics, Press Ganey scores regulations data, denials, and staff feedback to relevant providers.
● Assure that patients care, medical charts and records meet quality, legal and medical requirements:
● Assure medical management of the patients is coordinated and that the History and Physical examinations are completed by the consulting physician within 24 hours, or as required by the patient’s program.
● Assure that all patients admitted to the psychiatric services have a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation completed as required by program guidelines.
● Comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
● Maintain appointment to the active medical staff of the facility
● Maintain current licensure and DEA registration.
