School Adjustment Counselor Grades 9-12
Sharon High School is seeking a highly qualified and collaborative School Adjustment Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students in grades 9-12. The Adjustment Counselor works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, culturally responsive mental health support that promote student well being and access to learning.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Direct Student SupportProvide individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral challengesConduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention and safety planning as neededSupport students in developing coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and social-emotional competenciesDeliver short-term, solution-focused counseling aligned with school-based practiceCase Management and CollaborationServe as a case manager for assigned students, including coordination of services and progress monitoringCollaborate with general education and special education staff to support student needs within the classroom settingParticipate in and contribute to Student Support/MTSS teams, IEP teams, and 504 planning meetingsMaintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelinesFamily and Community EngagementServe as a liaison between school, families, and outside providers/agencies to coordinate care and support student successCommunicate regularly with caregivers regarding student progress, concerns, and available resourcesFacilitate referrals to community-based mental health and social service providers as appropriateCrisis Response and School-Based Mental HealthParticipate in building-based crisis response and threat assessment protocolsSupport re-entry planning for students returning from hospitalization, extended absence, or alternative placementsContribute to the development and implementation of school-wide prevention and intervention initiativesSchool-Wide ContributionsParticipate actively in the school-based mental health teamCollaborate with staff to promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climateProvide consultation and professional support to staff regarding student mental health and behavioral concernsEngage in ongoing professional development related to adolescent mental health, trauma-informed practices, and equityQualifications:Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related fieldLicensure required from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as a School Adjustment Counselor/School Social WorkerDemonstrated experience working with adolescents in a school or clinical settingKnowledge of MTSS, special education law/regulations, and trauma-informed practicesStrong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
