Job Description :Position: Health Information Clerk (HIM Clerk)Location: Whittier, CA 90602Duration: 13 WeeksSchedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PMShift: Day (5x8 Hours) Position Summary The Health Information Clerk (HIM Clerk) is responsible for processing, maintaining, and managing patient health information under the direction of the HIM Director or designated supervisor. This role ensures accurate handling, storage, and retrieval of medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Key Responsibilities Collect, retrieve, and deliver patient medical records for care and administrative use Process discharged patient records from nursing units, emergency department, and ambulatory services Prepare, scan, index, and file medical records and loose documentation Ensure all records are complete, accurate, and properly organized before scanning Track medical record locations by logging chart movement Identify and follow up on missing or incomplete records Assist physicians and staff with medical record requests Answer and route department phone calls appropriately Maintain scanning equipment and ensure quality control of scanned documents Prepare records for storage or destruction as needed Adhere to departmental productivity standards and organizational policies Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) at all times Support departmental projects and perform additional duties as assigned Required Skills & Competencies Knowledge of medical records and documentation processes Strong attention to detail with high accuracy Ability to manage both alphabetical and numerical filing systems Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational and time management skills Basic computer proficiency (Windows environment) Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute Legible handwriting and documentation skills Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems Knowledge of medical terminology Prior experience in a HIM department or medical office High School Diploma or GED Valid California driver's license with insurance and registration (if required)
