Job Description
We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to design, implement, and support high-quality database solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with deep Microsoft SQL Server expertise and a commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and reliability.
This role is responsible for managing and supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments, including virtual machine (VM)-based database servers, while collaborating with other database administrators supporting multiple platforms such as Azure and Oracle. The DBA will ensure optimal performance, scalability, security, and availability of enterprise database systems.
Responsibilities
Provide DBA support for distributed SQL Server environments across multiple data centers.
Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance of complex SQL Server environments; identify issues and implement approved solutions.
Support database design, development, and programming efforts in collaboration with application development teams.
Configure SQL Server services including security, connectivity (e.g., JDBC), clustering, and related components.
Plan, coordinate, and execute SQL Server installations, upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance activities.
Build and support new database environments to meet application and business needs.
Collaborate with network, storage, and IIS teams to support SQL Server infrastructure configurations.
Develop technical documentation, implementation plans, and project tasks.
Provide both non-production and production support, including troubleshooting and resolving application and database issues.
Support DevOps tools and processes (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Nginx, Maven, and related tools).
Deliver Tier III support for critical database issues and participate in incident resolution efforts.
Lead technical discussions and meetings related to database design, implementation, and maintenance.
Design and manage clustering solutions, including node setup, interconnect configuration, and storage integration.
Implement and maintain high availability solutions such as clustering, replication, and log shipping.
Monitor and tune database and cluster performance for optimal efficiency and reliability.
Support capacity planning, scalability initiatives, and infrastructure growth strategies.
Ensure compliance with security standards, access controls, and risk management policies.
Perform regular database security updates, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
Identify inefficiencies in existing database systems and recommend performance and cost optimization improvements.
Participate in strategic planning for database architecture and resource management.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
Qualifications
Experience supporting DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, Nexis, Maven, Bitbucket, Kony Mobile, and Nginx.
Experience configuring SQL Server services including security, JDBC connectivity, and clustering, as well as planning, installing, and coordinating SQL Server releases, migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
Minimum of 6 years of experience independently managing SQL Server databases in both on-premises and cloud environments.
Minimum of 6 years of experience providing DBA support for distributed server environments across multiple data centers.
Minimum of 6 years of experience working collaboratively with database administrators across multiple agencies supporting diverse database platforms, including Microsoft Azure and Oracle environments.
