Production Supervisor
Third Shift Production SupervisorThe Third Shift Production Supervisor oversees overnight manufacturing operations in a fast-paced machining and manufacturing environment. This role leads hourly production teams on the shop floor, manages labor and production performance, and ensures that safety, quality, and delivery targets are consistently achieved. The supervisor drives disciplined execution of standard processes, supports CNC machining activities, and champions continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, throughput, and waste reduction.ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee third shift production operations to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.Supervise and manage hourly employees, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, productivity, and performance across all work centers.Monitor production output, downtime, scrap, and labor metrics, and communicate shift performance to leadership.Ensure strict adherence to safety policies, quality standards, and standard operating procedures throughout the shift.Support CNC machining operations by troubleshooting production issues and escalating maintenance or quality concerns when necessary.Enforce attendance, accountability, and performance expectations for all team members on the shift.Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve issues that impact production flow and schedule adherence.Track production, labor, and inventory data using Microsoft Excel and internal reporting tools.Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, throughput, quality, and waste reduction using lean manufacturing and process improvement principles.Maintain accurate and detailed shift handoff notes to ensure effective communication with first and second shift leadership.Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment through consistent, visible leadership and clear communication on the shop floor.Essential SkillsPrevious supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing or production environment.Strong understanding of production operations, labor management, and shop-floor execution.Experience working in machining, CNC, or metal manufacturing environments is preferred but a solid production background is required.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic production reporting tools.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.Reliable attendance and the ability to consistently support overnight third shift operations.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrior experience supervising overnight or off-shift production teams.Exposure to CNC machining centers, tooling, or precision manufacturing environments.Experience with inventory control, production metrics, or ERP/MES systems.Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.Hands-on experience with process improvement and production management in a machining or metal manufacturing setting.Strong general management skills, including coaching, performance feedback, and team development.Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a fast-paced machining and metal manufacturing environment during the overnight third shift. The supervisor works primarily on the shop floor, closely engaged with CNC machining operations and production equipment, while also using computers and internal systems for reporting and data tracking. Work involves regular collaboration with Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to maintain smooth production flow.
