Orientation & Mobility Specialist in Oakland, CA

Seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students during the 25/26 school year in Oakland, CA. This in-person contract position offers an opportunity to impart specialized skills that enhance the independence and safety of students with visual impairments.Responsibilities include:Conducting comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments.Developing personalized mobility plans tailored to each student's unique needs.Providing direct instruction on safe travel techniques, use of mobility aids, and environmental adaptation.Collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student progress.Maintaining accurate records and documentation of student outcomes.Qualifications:Certification or specialized training as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).Experience working with students in school settings, particularly those with visual impairments.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, families, and school staff.Knowledge of mobility tools and adaptive techniques to promote independence.Ability to work 20+ hours per week during the school year in an in-person capacity.Location: Oakland, CA - work is entirely onsite within the school environment.This contract role emphasizes making a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners by enhancing their navigation skills and confidence in daily environments.
