Big Data Engineer (Java)Optomi, in partnership with a leading financial services company, is looking for a Big Data Engineer (Java) to join their enterprise transparency team in either Rockville, MD or Tyson’s Corner, VA. The Data Engineer will work on ingesting, storing, validating and disseminating after transforming data in a consumable format for business intelligence teams and data analysts to get deeper business insight from the data. The successful candidate will contribute to building and modernizing data processing systems within AWS and can own the full development lifecycle.What the right candidate will enjoy:Build impactful large-scale data solutions – Help design and develop high-performance data pipelines that transform massive datasets into actionable business insights used across the organization.Work with modern cloud and engineering technologies – Leverage Java 17+, AWS serverless services, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, and CI/CD tools to create scalable, cloud-native solutions.Solve complex technical challenges – Tackle opportunities involving distributed systems, data processing, performance optimization, multithreading, and system architecture.Collaborate with a strong engineering team – Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and innovation initiatives while influencing technical direction and engineering best practices.Responsibilities of the right candidate:Analyze and translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions using Core Java (JDK 17+)Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL pipelines leveraging AWS services and serverless technologies in compliance with business specificationsImplement comprehensive automated testing strategies including unit tests (JUnit, Mockito), functional tests (Playwright or similar frameworks), and performance tests (Gatling or equivalent tools)Architect and optimize data pipeline infrastructure ensuring high performanceLead and participate in peer code reviews and design review sessions, ensuring adherence to best practices and architectural standardsCollaborate in CI/CD processes using build tools to ensure seamless deployment and integrationProvide technical expertise and support to production operations teams for troubleshooting, incident resolution, and system maintenanceExperience of the right candidate:5+ years of experience in programming (Java)3+ years of experience in big data projects in AWS3+ years of experience with API development (REST API’s) and testingDeep knowledge in Core Java (JDK 17+), multithreading, concurrency, memory management and data structuresStrong experience with AWS services and serverless technologiesSkilled in relational PostgreSQL databases and performance tuningExperience in build tools (Maven, Gradle) and CI/CD processExperience using Mockito(Or Similar)/JUnit, Playwright(Or Similar testing framework) , Gatling (Or similar performance testing
