Think of us as the travel buddy who handles the logistics while you focus on what you do best helping people heal.Roles & ResponsibilitiesIdentify and accession tissue specimens with absolute attention to patient identity and demographicsProcess tissue specimens and operate the tissue processor to ensure timely workflowAssist pathologists with gross examinations by providing accurately labeled cassettesPerform microtomy: cut sections from embedded tissue blocks and prepare slidesStain slides, including special histochemical stains, completing them within requested timeframesPrepare and perform frozen section procedures promptly when specimens arrivePrepare slides and anatomical material for external consultations and shipping as neededFile and index slides and blocks for secure storage and efficient retrievalMaintain meticulous laboratory records and ensure specimens are retained for appropriate durationsSupport daily diagnostic reporting by delivering high-quality slides to pathologists on timeQualificationsCertified as a Histotechnologist with ASCP or equivalent certification requiredExperience and comfort with frozen section preparation and special stainsStrong proficiency in tissue processing, microtomy, sectioning and stainingAttention to detail for specimen identification and accurate patient demographics entryAbility to follow direction from supervisors and collaborate with pathologists and lab staffFamiliarity with proper slide and block storage, rotation and retention policiesKnowledge & SkillsHistology techniques including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and stainingFrozen section preparation and rapid specimen handlingSpecimen identification, accessioning and chain of custody practicesOperation and maintenance of tissue processors and microtomesPerforming special histochemical stains and troubleshooting staining issuesLaboratory record keeping, indexing and file managementStrong organizational skills and time management to meet diagnostic deadlinesAbility to assist in gross examination and prepare consult/shipments for other labsBenefitsGenerous housing stipend and travel reimbursement for contract travelersMedical, Dental & Vision coverage optionsLicensure assistance and reimbursement to keep your credentials currentPaid Time Off so you can actually take a break401K retirement savings plan and life insurance optionsSupportive team environment where your work mattersOpportunities for professional development and continuing educationReferral bonus program to reward you for great teammatesTravel Perks: Explore State College, PAState College is a lively college town with easy access to the Penn State campus, local cafes, restaurants and breweries.
