Team Lead - Shipping
About the PositionTo ensure that the crew achieves the targets set by management and assist team members so that they perform to their full potential. This role is responsible for developing new ideas and solutions which can help the organization in coming up with new strategies and procedures. This role has the responsibility for ensuring the safety, productivity, and efficiency in the department on a daily basis. The position follows standard operating procedures, and practices safe work habits, to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. This position requires both working in an operational, hands-on capacity and assists with administrative duties when assigned. This position requires working on weekends and on day/swing shifts as scheduled or when needed.Main Responsibilities* Ensure employees/contractors are following all SSAB Environmental & Safety policies and business plans.* Communicate the daily shipping plan set by the Shipping Manager and work with the employees to meet the plans goals* Perform quality and operational audits on shift to ensure employees are following procedures.* Complete annual employee performance reviews* Work with Sales, QA, Scheduling, and Transportation to minimize backlog and maximize on-time shipments.* Rotate employees between jobs to maximize production and allow employees the opportunity to train and keep employees motivated to achieve shipping targets.* Direct the loading of trucks, railcars, and the placement of new production into the plate/ coil inventories.* Complete daily shipping reporting functions (shift reports, equipment inspections, QA forms, switch requests, etc.)* Be a role model and set proper examples for employees to follow.Education, Experience and CompetenciesRequired:High School Diploma or GED/HSE equivalentMaintenance Operator experience in Shipping2 years experience as a Team Leader or Step-Up Team LeaderExcellent verbal and written communication skillsComputer skills included but not limited to Word, ExcelDemonstrated leadership skillsAbility to multi-task and work under pressure, while maintaining composure and professionalism.Possess effective decision-making skillsRegular and reliable attendancePreferred:* Associates DegreeSupervisory Responsibilities/Direct ReportsThis position supervises other personnel working the same shift and will lead and direct 15 MOD/MO'sWork Environment and Physical DemandsThe employee will frequently be required to:Sit, stand, walk, alternating up to 12 hours at a timeUse both hands for grasping, handling, gripping and feeling textures and temperaturesLift and/or move up to 10 lbs.The employee will occasionally be required to:Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climbBend, twist at waist level, reach at and/or above shoulder level and below waist levelPush, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing less than 50 poundsThe position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:* Vision at near, mid and far range and peripheral vision and depth perception* Talking and hearing in person, on the phone, and/or in group settingsThe employee will be required to use the following machines or tools:Desktop computerMeasurement equipmentControl software and Database/Level 2Hand toolsFork truckShipping scanners and PC applicationsThe employee will work in the following conditions:Indoors in an office, on the Shipping floor, outdoorsExtreme heat and extreme coldWet and humid conditionsAmid fumes, dust, dirt, and smokeAround equipment in motionAmid noiseAmid mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and industrial magnetsWhile wearing personal protective / safety equipment to prevent injury from noise and environmental hazardsPosition Type - Work Hours - Travel Requirements* Position is full time, hourly, and is eligible for overtime* Position works rotating 12-hour shifts to include days and nights with mandatory vacation coverage as neededOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee for this job.
