Technical Service Representative

Job Function The Technical Services Representative – Coatings is a full-time exempt position. The TSR – Coatings works closely with the Technical Services Manager and other Technical Service Representatives to provide effective technical support to and build relationships with our Coatings Business customers. The TSR will define and convert opportunities or to resolve customer complaints and issues. Responsibilities Complies with safety rules and regulations, attends safety meetings and training, inspects work area for hazards/deficiencies and initiates action to correct them. Also, reports injury/illness and/or environmental incidents. Directly interface with customers to define and bring resolution to opportunities and/or problems to satisfy customer needs. Design, plan and execute project elements in the laboratory, as well as in customers’ plants and laboratories, as appropriate, to meet customer requirements and expectations. Provide effective and timely communication and recordkeeping at every stage of a project. This will include (but will not be limited to) progress reports, updates, call reports, electronic laboratory notebook, and project milestones reached or missed. Apply problem-solving techniques (8D and 5Why) providing timely resolution to customer concerns and successful conversion of new opportunities. Determine specification requirements for materials used in or result from research and development. Provide on-site customer support as deemed necessary by the Technical Service Manager, Coatings or Business Director, Coatings. Active support of, and participation in all appropriate BMS and EHS aspects. Requirement Experience BA/BS degree in appropriate field of science (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science). Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work with and support colleagues, analyze and solve problems, control resources, and implement programs. Project management skills. Knowledge of color and appearance science. Aptitude for working with electronic computing/communication and mechanical processing devices. Ability to multi-task, work independently and employ effective time management skills to meet tight deadlines. Ability to discern different shades of color. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally on short notice.
