These crucial projects and initiatives taken on by this team have never been done before, so you have a rare opportunity to help us create new ways people connect around the world. The Meta Robotics Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with an emphasis on testing and instrumentation to inform mechanical design limits, reduce weight, and improve reliability and quality of the products. This role will be part of a ME team responsible for concept development, analytical modeling, prototype design, fabrication, vendor management, and testing. Candidates will work in a high ambiguity, deadline-driven environment where full system requirements are seldom known. This team is dedicated to building hardware that enables learning through data collection and testing.Minimum Qualifications8+ years experience in Mechanical Design Engineering and with experience in mechanical engineering design for harsh environments, and test and measurementBS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related fieldExperience with shock and vibration measurement and analysisExperience in test fixture designExperience with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX or similar CAD toolsExperience with prototyping manufacturing processes and materialsExperience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholdersExperience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) - Static structural analysis, modal analysisPreferred Qualifications* Experience in Robotics and consumer electronic product design* Experience driving and leading projects from cradle to graveResponsibilitiesDefining static and dynamic design loads for the team for all subsystems through detailed investigation and study of anticipated use-casesInstrumenting robots, collecting data, and processing to determine peak shock and vibration forcesSustaining engineering: Troubleshooting root-cause of mechanical failures, implementing improved designs, testing effectiveness of changeDesigning test plans to simulate loads at a component and sub-system level on a vibration/shock tableHelping build a test & measurement internal teamCollaborate closely with reliability team to implement best practices for high-reliability mechanical and electrical designDesigning test protocols, fixtures, and custom built equipment to conduct high load testsBuild subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptionsCollaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers (EE, SW, Firmware) to deliver complete technical solutionsAbout MetaMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
