Traffic Engineering Technician

You can also explore our thriving downtown district, filled with shops, restaurants, and entertainment options, or take a stroll along the Cedar River, which runs through the heart of the city .Cedar Rapids - Why you should live here!About this OpportunityCoordinates the analysis, development and implementation of traffic safety and traffic control programs.The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesManages GIS and crash data programs, railroad surface and safety program, and the traffic counting program.Reviews and evaluates right-of-way, excavation and special event permits to determine street closure and/or traffic control needs.Responds to citizen concerns and requests; evaluates requests for changes in street name and regulatory signs and recommends approvalsReviews final plats for regulatory sign and street lighting installation needs.Completes sign design and placement in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control standards; reviews public and private handicap parking installations.Attends pre-construction meetingsWorks with utility companies on installation and removal of street lights and reviews construction plans; recommends changes to street lightingCoordinates temporary railroad crossing closures.Researches intersection and roadway crash history; identifies concerns.Completes speed studies; reviews school crossings and routesApproves parking restrictions for special eventsPerforms related work as requiredRequired Education and ExperienceAssociate's Degree in related field andThree to five years of experience in traffic control, design and/or safety orAn equivalent combination of education and/or experienceExcellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft OfficeAbility to work collaboratively with a diverse populationDesired Qualifications* Experience with GIS softwareWork Schedule* Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm
