About Evansville State Hospital
Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible.
Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.
Salary Statement
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $29,302.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life
Therapeutic Activity Support
Directs, instructs, and supervises patients in specialized activities to promote rehabilitation goals
Advises and reinforces patients on acceptable social behavior to support therapeutic progress, employing behavior modification or other techniques
Plans, schedules, and executes activities for therapeutic programming
Patient Monitoring and Documentation
Observe and document patient progress, attendance, behavior, and outcomes to inform individualized care plans and recommend changes in activities.
Facility and Equipment Maintenance
Assist in the care and maintenance of facilities

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following
Effective communication skills.
Ability to stimulate patient's interests in specialized activities.
Working knowledge of sociology and psychology as they relate to assessing rehabilitation needs of patients.
Working knowledge of, and ability to implement, behavior modification techniques to complement rehabilitation therapy programs.
Ability to assess patient's progress and needs, changing instructional methods.
Specialized knowledge of standard techniques and methods of providing rehabilitation.
Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies related to rehabilitation therapy.
Working knowledge of, and proper use of, special equipment or materials utilized in rehabilitation therapy.
A degree is not required. However, at least 6 months of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered. Experience involving persons with developmental disabilities or a group home setting is preferred.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
