Assistant Golf Course Superintendent- Lead

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a key role in delivering consistent, high-quality playing conditions that meet the expectations of a private club membership. This position works closely with the Superintendent to manage daily golf course maintenance operations, lead staff, and uphold the club's standards for course presentation, playability, and member satisfaction.This role is designed as a development position, offering hands-on experience and mentorship to prepare the individual for future advancement to a Golf Course Superintendent role.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the planning and execution of all golf course maintenance practices, including mowing, fertilization, aerification, and pest managementHelp maintain consistent playing conditions with a focus on greens performance, fairway quality, and overall course aestheticsSupervise, train, and motivate maintenance staff to ensure efficient daily operations and a strong team cultureAssist in scheduling staff and assigning daily tasks to meet course needs and member play demandsSupport irrigation management, including daily monitoring, scheduling, and minor repairsApply fertilizers and plant protectants in compliance with all regulations and best management practicesMonitor turf health and course conditions, making recommendations for improvements when necessaryAssist with course setup, ensuring proper tee, pin, and bunker conditions aligned with club standardsMaintain accurate records of chemical applications, weather data, and maintenance activitiesCommunicate effectively with the Superintendent regarding course conditions, staffing, and equipment needsPromote and enforce safe working conditions for all team membersRepresent the maintenance team in a professional manner when interacting with membersCareer Development OpportunitiesDirect mentorship from an experienced Golf Course SuperintendentProgressive responsibility in agronomic planning, budgeting, and staff managementInvolvement in long-term course improvement projects and capital planningOpportunities to lead key initiatives such as aerification programs, irrigation upgrades, or tournament preparationSupport for continuing education, certifications, and attendance at industry conferencesClear pathway to advancement within the club or at other private facilitiesQualificationsDegree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred2–5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably at a private club or similar operationValid pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)Working knowledge of irrigation systems, turfgrass practices, and equipment operationPrevious leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferredStrong attention to detail and commitment to course qualityGood communication and interpersonal skills, with a service-oriented mindsetDesire to grow professionally and advance within the golf course management industryPhysical RequirementsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsCapable of performing physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbsWillingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required in a private club environmentJ-18808-Ljbffr
