Plant Operator I

Job TitleUnder general supervision, operates and maintains the biological treatment process, chemical treatment systems, mechanical equipment, and labor operations of the wastewater treatment plant. Monitors and operate sewage lift stations and the water distribution system. Examples of DutiesMonitors and operates wastewater treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, filters, gauges, and meters to ensure proper operation of the plant and sewage lift stations. Monitors and operates water distribution system equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, gauges, and meters to maintain reliable operation of the water distribution system. Tracks wastewater flow, dissolved oxygen concentration, and ammonia concentration; makes process adjustments as needed. Monitors water storage tank levels and distribution pressures; adjusts system operations to meet consumer demand for potable water. Operates bio-solids dewatering equipment as needed. Collects wastewater samples and interprets lab results to make process adjustments. Maintains daily logs and prepares monthly reports on wastewater operations. Keeps work areas clean, safe, and organized around plant processes and buildings. Completes preventive and corrective maintenance work orders on pumps, motors, air blowers, and other equipment in a timely manner. Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, and unfamiliar situations. Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures. Assist coworkers as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Wastewater Operator license prior to employment offer and obtain a Class "C" Water Distribution Certificate within 12 months of hire. Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations is required. Physical Abilities Must be able to read, write, see, hear, and walk. Must be able to perform strenuous physical tasks, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of force; lifting heavy objects; shoveling for extended periods; crawling; bending; walking; kneeling; and climbing on and off equipment. Must be able to operate moving and vibrating machinery. Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, underground, and in confined spaces, including on level, uneven, unstable, or muddy terrain, and tolerate constant noise. Must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure) and hazardous situations involving mechanical, electrical, fume, odor, dust/mist, chemical, toxic waste, and other solid waste substances. * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Desired QualificationsKnowledge/ Skills / Abilities Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, equipment, and materials as well as sewage lift station and potable water distribution system operations. Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with SCADA systems. Good hand-foot-eye coordination to operate equipment. Ability to work various shifts in a 24-hour period, including nights, weekends and holidays.
